Medicine by BMTH inspired papercut
This art is my take on lyrics in the track 'medicine' by Bring Me the Horizon.
Because I cut my teeth and bit my tongue
'Til my mouth was dripping blood
'Til my mouth was dripping blood
These lines gave me a visual idea of the whirlwind of blood dripping all around.
I started working in Procreate on what would become a printable sketch/template for my papercut. It took some time for me to achieve the visual likeness with Oliver Sykes since I didn't have a specific reference image.
From the get-go I knew it was important for me to include a deep prominent red colour. However, I wanted it to highlight the drips of blood, rather than cover the whole piece.
I chose to use red lipstick and mascara as colouring mediums.
After the blood-red lipstick and black mascara streaks were put according to the sketch, I was ready to start cutting.
The paper is circluar to enhance the wormhole movement. It is 30 centimetres in diameter.
As usual, I start cutting from the smallest pieces to largest to smoothly balance the tension in the piece of paper. In this work I spent most of the time on hair and blood as they form a very detailed net.
After two to three days of on and off cutting, I was finished with the work.
I love the final result for its texture, dynamic rhythm and chaotic lines, which is the look I was aiming for.
